6622. Diehl, L. H., and Faber, P. March 16. Materials for making coke.-For the manufacture of coke suitable for use in the blast furnace, basic substances are added to the coal in a proportion sufficient to transform the ash constituents approximately into a singulosilicate (mono-silicate) or slightly more basic silicate, and coking at a high temperature, so that the iron sulphide present is decomposed and calcium sulphide and metallic iron are produced. Reference is made to the use of quicklime, slaked lime, dolomite, basic silicates, or manganese ore. A small proportion of chloride of sodium or calcium, carbonates or silicates of alkalies, fluor-spar, or the like may be added.
