Abstract

6287. Heller, H. J. March 12. Paddle-wheels.-In aerial and other propellers having feathering blades C', the feathering movement is given to the blades by gear-wheels b on fixed sleeves a, within which the propeller shafts rotate. In the form shown, two propellers are driven by a hollow shaft A through bevel-wheels d, b<1>, the wheels b<1> being fast on tubular shafts passing through the fixed sleeves a and having bosses C, in which the spindles of the blades revolve. The driving-shaft A and the propeller shafts are supported by a T-shaped rod B, B<1> having a bridgepin p secured to flanges f on the fixed sleeves a. The gear-wheels b on the fixed sleeves engage with wheels c on the propeller spindles, which have preferably twice as many teeth as the wheels b. The rotary movement of the propellers around their shafts and of the blades around their spindles may be made more rapid in the non-effective positions by elliptical gearing or other devices.
