Propelling.-A rotary propeller comprises webs s<1>, s<2>, s<3>, &c. of fabric which are caused alternately to extend and fold as they rotate, in virtue of their attachment to the conically co-axially arranged spokes d, e of two wheels b, c and to the spokes of an intermediate wheel a. The wheels b, c are mounted on shafts h, i preferably disposed at rightangles to each other, and are driven by gearing m, n. The wheel a rotates upon the shaft k, which may or may not be positively driven. As shown, the wheel a is driven by gearing connecting the three hubs f, q, g.
