Abstract
674. Mulacek, O., and Hatlanek, F. March 2, 1909, [Convention date]. Induction furnaces.-Escape of metal through cracks in the lining F is prevented by one or more rammed or pressed layers such as are shown at H, K, M, which prevents cracks in the lining from reaching the outside. To prevent metal from escaping between the layers, those K, M at the sides may be connected at the bottom, forming an enclosing channel, or they may, at the bottom, be integral with the lining; paper, tracing cloth or the like, which becomes carbonized, may be placed between the layers, and besides hindering any escape of metal, allows expansive movement of the layers. In a furnace lined with magnesite, for instance, the layers may consist of magnesite or dolomite.
