Abstract
672. Mulacek, O., and Hatlanek, F. March 1, 1909, [Convention date]. Induction furnaces.-The annular hearth E is wholly or partly supported by dry sand or other granular refractory material M which allows of expansion and thereby prevents cracking. The layer of sand preferably slopes in the direction of expansion, as shown, and it may be only a few grains thick. In a double furnace with a central hearth, the central part may rest directly upon masonry. In the furnace shown, the hearth is surrounded by a layer K of magnesite sand, asbestos wool or other yielding material, and has a cooling- jacket C.
