Abstract
174,084. Frick, O. Jan. 15, 1921, [Convention date]. Induction furnaces. -A furnace for melting and refining metals has a ring-shaped hearth 3 provided with a melting channel, the inner wall of which has a less inclination to the horizontal than the angle of repose of magnesite or like repairing material so that such material can be applied and sintered on corroded parts of the wall during working. As shown the inner wall of the channel is inclined at about 17‹ to the horizontal. The hearth is fitted with a cover 4 provided with openings or is made in sections to facilitate the application of the repairing material to the corroded parts. An iron core 1 surrounded by the primary coil 2 completes the furnace which may be tilted during the repairing operation if desired. In a modification both walls of the melting channel are inclined at about 27‹ to the horizontal so as to form a V-shaped channel the angle of which is about 136‹.
