Abstract

Cutting-appliances.-Relates to a knife for tapping india-rubber trees and for like purposes, of the type in which the blade is secured against twisting out of position by a stem or thickened portion of the blade being secured in a groove in the head of the holder. The blade b, Figs. 1 and 2, is provided with a thickened portion or backbone h of cruciform shape, which is secured in a recess formed by a pair of snugs or projections g on the shank a by one or more bolts d. The blade extends outwards from each side of the shank, preferably to an equal extent, so that four cutting-edges b<1> may be utilized. The guards f are formed integral with the blade, or, as shown in Fig 6, they may be formed with, or carried by, a frame h, which is screwed to and reinforces the backbone of the removable and reversible blade b.
