Description

No. 777,511. PATENTED DEC. 18, 1904. E. A. IRONSIDE.
WIRE CUTTER.
APPLIGATION FILED 0073.14, 1903v N0 MODEL.
y Fig: ,1
UNITED STATES Patented December 13, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
WIRE-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,511, dated December 13, 1904.
Application filed October 14, 1903.
To all whom it Wtay concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD ALLAN IRONSIDE, a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Gutters, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relatesto improvements in cutters or shears for metal wire, rod, or other articles of round or approximately round section, and has mainly for its object the novel arrangement of parts, whereby the article to be cut receives a rotary motion during the operation instead of the ordinary scissor-like cut.
Another object is the provision of means to prevent the cutting-blades of the instrument from coming into contact one with another, and thereby injuring their cutting utility.
With the above objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view in side elevation and partly in section of the invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof.
In describing the invention similar reference-letters will denote corresponding parts in both views.
In the drawings, a is a handle having its head securely riveted at r to the ends of and between the curved links a The head of the handle Z) is pivoted at 0 between the opposite ends of the links. The cutting edges e Serial No. 176,941. (No model.)
eling or sliding out in place of the usual thrust or scissor-like cut. The advantage oi the stop or check has been hereinbei'ore noted.
Having fully described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cutter of the character described, two links, a handle rigidly secured between the ends of the links, a blade, having its cutting edge curved inwardly on a true circle, on the handle, a second blade pivoted between the opposite ends of the links, a blade, having its cutting edge curved outwardly on a circle, on the second handle, the cutting edges 01 the blades being opposed and the pivotal point of the second blade being such as to cause the edges of the blades to eccentrically engage one another, and stopping means on the handles to limit the movement of the cutting-blade on the pivoted handle toward the blade-on the rigid handle.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD ALLAN IRONSIDE.
