Abstract
27,781. Watt, R. S., Watt, R. B., and Watt, A. B. Nov. 27, 1908, [Convention date]. Crushers with vibrating jaws.-A machine for crushing rock or ore consists of a series of stationary jaws 3 pivotally supported near the upper end on a transverse shaft 4 opposite a series of movable jaws 5, which are mounted on a driving-shaft 6 near the lower end, and connected at the upper end by links 18 to the frame of the machine, the lower ends of both series of jaws being formed with smooth curved surfaces 3, 5 concentric with the shaft 6. The jaws 5 are advanced in succession by eccentrics 7 on the shaft 6, roller bearings 8 being provided between the eccentrics and sleeves 9 within the castings 10. The rollers 8 of each jaw are preferably divided into two sets by washers 10 ; and metal washers 10 separated by an intervening felt washer 10<c> are arranged between the bearings of each jaw. The members 10 carry backing-plates 11, to which the shoes 51 are bolted, and rearwardly-extending plates 13 are bolted by angle-irons 14 to the edges of each plate 11. The lower portions of the plates 13 surround the sleeves 9 ; and at the upper end they are mounted on a shaft 16 connected by links 18 to a transverse shaft 19. To allow the lower portion of each jaw 3 to yield when any unbreakable substance passes between the jaws, a wedge-shaped block 23, coned out in any preferred manner, is interposed between a shaft 26, extending between the side plates 27 of the jaws, and a wedge-shaped block 28 bolted to a bar 29, which extends across the rear of the frame. Each safety block 23 is adjustable vertically on its suspension rod 31 to determine the fineness of the crushed ore. A spring 37 bears against the lower section 3 of each stationary jaw, and is adjustable by a nut 39 on a rod 38 supported by a stay bar 35 Stay bars 41 connect the main side plates 21 of the frame ; and T-bars 45, 46 extend across the top of the frame at each side of the feed-opening. In a modification, the lower curved section of the stationary jaw is pivoted at its upper end, a flange on the lower end of the straight portion overhanging a bevelled portion at the upper end of the curved section. Preferably the moving jaws move upwardly during the crushing-movement; and a single pair of jaws may be used.
