Abstract

27,536. Beaulieu, L. Dec. 16, 1908, [Convention date]. Furs and furriery.-A machine for carrotting skins comprises, more particularly, (1) a rotary brush provided with means whereby it may be supplied regularly with the quantity of liquid required for impregnating the hair without wetting the leather; (2) suitably-driven feed-rollers having deep grooves and presenting, on one face of each groove of one roller, serrated surfaces for raising the hair and preparing it for the operation of the brush; (3) an inclined table, upon which the skin travels, provided with longitudinal grooves separated by sharp-edged ridges for preventing the wetting of the leather. The skin is fed through a pair of rollers b, of which the upper has serrations d on its teeth, Fig. 3, on to a slightly inclined, grooved, glass table a, and under a rotary brush e above which is 'placed a distributing-rose f. Excess of nitrate solution is removed from the brush by a scraper-plate i and collected in a trough j. The skin then passes through a second pair of grooved feed-rollers c to be subjected to the action of a second rotary brush k which smooths the hair and causes the liquid to penetrate to its roots, while equalizing the quantity of liquid on the hair. The different roller and brush arbors are mounted on adjustable spring bearings. A grooved table n, under the sloping table a, collects any excess of liquid.
