Cooling gases and liquids.-An apparatus for cooling gases or liquids consists of a vessel A having inverted truncated c o n e - shaped plates B, fixed on its inner surface, between which are disks D forming a rotor, on one or more disks of which are provided with impeller blades E. The liquid entering through a pipe F impinges on the blades E and causes the rotation of the disks, which rotation may be assisted by means of the gear-wheels G. The gas, entering at H, passes through films of liquid thrown off from the rotating disks, and also through the liquid falling from the plates B.
