Abstract

27,010. Haddan, H. J., [Lamb Knitting Machine Co.]. Nov. 20. Driving machines. - Machine tools, such as lathes, are driven by variable-speed and reversing gearing of the class employing sliding keys and shaft couplings with driving and driven elements connected by shock-absorbing springs which permit limited relative movement to take place. Additional shock-absorbing means are arranged to come into operation at substantially the limit of the movement permitted by the springs. A collar 38 secured to the driving- shaft 21 carries a wedge-shaped stop 42 at the end of a prolongation 40, Fig. 2. The hollow driven shaft 35 has a prolongation 41 enveloping the pointed end of the stop 42. The collar 38 and part 41 are connected by the main shockabsorbing spring 36 as shown in Fig. 3. The additional resilient device comprises inclined blocks 43 carried by the part 41 and adapted to be engaged and thrust apart by the stop 42 at the limit of the movement permitted by the spring 36. The blocks 43 are normally pressed together by springs 44 which yield to the impact. A sleeve 45 surrounds the parts 42, 43.
