Abstract

24,729. Potter, W. S. Oct. 27. [Addition to 24,685/08.] Annealing.-Relates to the method of heating manganese steel, preparatory to working, as described in the parent Specification, and particularly to the treatment of the ingot while still hot from the heat of casting. The ingot is removed from the mould while the temperature ranges from about 950 to 1150‹ C. on the outside to about 1325‹ C. in the interior, and is placed in a furnace which is approximately at the same temperature as the interior of the ingot. The temperature is then raised or lowered as necessary until the temperature of the ingot preferably ranges from 1100-1150‹ C. at the exterior to 1200-1275‹ C. in the interior.
