1310782 Producing malleable iron NIKEX NEHEZIPARI KœLKERESKEDELMI VALLALAT 29 March 1971 8055/71 Heading C7D In the production of malleable iron a sample is either cast or taken from a casting, and is annealed at 5 degrees to 215‹C below its melting point while the progress of graphitisation is detected by a physical method such as dilatometry, From the result, and using a known time-temperature relationship, the minimum time necessary for complete graphitisation of the batch of castings at a practical annealing temperature is determined. Alternatively if the bath of iron is kept molten in a holding furnace while the test is made appropriate graphitizing additions may be made before casting in accordance with known rules to modify the graphitisation time to the desired value.
