Abstract

21,922. Salmson, E. J. J., and AimÚ, P. E. Sep. 30,1908, [Convention date]. Aerial machines without aerostats; propelling by currents from screw propellers &c. directed on inclined surfaces. Vertical movement is obtained independently of all horizontal movement by means of apparatus within the machine causing two currents of air to be directed in opposite directions horizontally upon two systems of planes slightly inclined to the horizontal. The currents may be produced by two propellers b, c of equal and opposite pitch mounted on the same horizontal shaft a. The inclination of the planes f, g upon which these currents are directed may be adjustable. For horizontal propulsion the machine may be slightly inclined from front to rear by an alteration of the position of the load, or additional pivoted planes h, i may be used. Steering.-The vertical planes h, i, against which the air currents from the propellers impinge for producing horizontal motion, may be adjusted to vary the direction of motion.
