Abstract

26,764. Vaniman, M. Dec. 6, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Aerial machines without aerostats; aeroplanes; parachutes; propelling; steering. -An aerial machine, propelled by screws k, k<1>, driven in opposite directions from any suitable motor, is provided with an aeroplane a having its sides a<1>, a<2> curved downwards ; a vertical plane e, f, g dividing the plane a into two parts gives stability to the machine. The plane a is provided at its ends with parts b, b<1> which serve as rudders ; in case of accident to the motor, they may be drawn downwards so as to form a parachute. The part b is operated by cables p, q attached to a member r, which takes the same inclination as the part b, and the rear part b<1> is operated by a cable s passing over guide-pulleys. The vertical plane is formed of a framework covered with silk, screens n, n<1>, covering the platform h.
