Mountings.-Relates to ranging and pointing gear of the kind in which there is a pointing- rack attached to a fixed part of the mounting and a ranging-rack which moves relatively to the fixed pointing-rack during pointing and is fixed during ranging. According to the invention, the ranging - rack carries the pointing pinion and is slidably mounted on the fixed pointing-rack, and the ranging-pinion is carried by the gun cradle. The sighting-gear is connected by links with the casing of the pointing- gear and the drift correction is obtained by a special cam device controlled by the elevation of the gun. Fig. 1 shows a side elevation and Fig. 3 a plan of the gun and mounting. The two part ranging-rack D', to which is connected a casing C<2> containing worm - gearing and the ranging - pinion, slides over a two - part fixed pointing-rack C<1> on the operation of the pointing hand-wheel C arranged co-axial with the gun trunnions. The ranging-pinions are contained in a casing D<2> attached to the gun-cradle and are operated from a ranging hand-wheel D through worm-gearing. The sights which are mounted on a lever E<2>, Fig. 6, pivoted at E<3> to the fixed rack C<1> are connected with the casing C<1Î> of the pointing-gear by links E, E<1> and are automatically deflected for drift by a pin g<1> engaging with a cam G<1> rotated during the elevation of the gun by links G<4>, G<3>, G<2>, G<1>. When pointing with the hand-wheel C, the gun moves with the rack D<1>, the pinions in the casing D<2> being locked thereto by the wormgearing on the opposite side of the mounting, and the sights move through the same angle owing to their connexion with the casing C<1Î>. When ranging with the hand-wheel D, the gun alone is moved over the rack D<1>, which is then locked to the rack C' by the worm-gearing in the casing C<2>.
