Hasp fastenings. - Air-tight boxes &c. are fastened by a hasp c hinged to a sliding plate c<1>, which is provided with projections c<5> embracing an eccentric e operable by a handle e<2>, so that, by turning down the handle, the hasp, by means of a staple d, draws the lid tightly on to its india-rubber or like seating a<3>. A spring f bears on the eccentric to hold it in the raised or lowered position. The eccentric may be in one piece with the operating-handle and spindle, or the parts may be made separately, and secured by well-known means. The eccentric may also have its bearing faces for the spring f flattened. The staple d is provided with a hole for padlocking, and may be notched to prevent disengagement from the hasp when the padlock is removed.
