Abstract

Lubricant conveyed by fluid.- The cylinders, piston - rings, and piston-rods of engines working with superheated steam are lubricated by powdered graphite blown into the cylinder by dry steam at a pressure higher than that in the cylinder. A vessel 5 screwed into an opening in the cylinder is charged with graphite through an opening 3, and the superheated steam, derived from the steam-pipe on the boiler-supply side of the governor valve, is admitted by a pipe 10. The admission and discharge cocks 9, 6 may be operated simultaneously in any convenient manner. To time the operation, the cocks may be operated automatically from a moving part of the engine.
