Taximeters; movable shutters for reading-apertures.-In instruments provided with a sliding shutter g for masking the indications when the flag spindle is in the disengaged (vertical) position, the mechanism is so arranged that the shutter is quickly moved to expose or cover the indications when the flag spindle is almost in the engaged (horizontal) position. The shaft of the flag e is geared with a cam f<1> adapted to engage a projection on the spring- controlled lever i connected to the shutter through a pin and slot k. The line h represents the position of the flag spindle when the shutter is about to be shifted.
