Pivot adjustments.-Relates to automatic locking-devices for wind-screens &c. of the kind wherein a pair of locking-pieces provided at their outer ends with projections or grooves are normally drawn together by a spring and wedged in an annular groove or upon an annular web in or on the fixed member of the device so as normally to lock a shaft or the like in any position of adjustment, said device being provided with an actuating-lever which automatically releases the locking-pieces from the fixed member. The invention consists in forming straight cut grooves or straight projections upon the locking-pieces. The locking-pieces c, engaging an enlargement d upon the shaft or part a to be locked, are provided with straight-cut grooves c adapted to engage an annular ring or web f upon the fixed casing b. The locking- pieces are drawn together by a spring g and normally lock the spindle a against movement in either direction. The casing b is fitted with a rotatable cover which is provided with an actuating-handle n and comprises the releasing and actuating-member. When the handle n is actuated, one of a pair of releasing lugs m on the inner face of the cover engages the outer end of one of the locking-pieces c according to the direction of movement, and a pair of pins j on the cover engage slots k in the enlargement d to actuate directly the spindle a. The locking-pieces may be provided with straight projections adapted to engage a fixed annular groove. By dispensing with one of the locking- pieces c, the locking-device can be rendered operative in one direction only.
