Coating-machines; coating, work-holders for. -An apparatus for coating articles, such as the parts of a piano, by dipping, comprises a tank 1, a counter-balanced holder 35 for the articles, and an hydraulic jack 4 for raising and lowering the holder. The piston-rod 6 of the jack carries a swinging bracket consisting of a tubular sleeve surrounding the rod and an horizontal arm 20 with supporting-straps 21. A vertical post 22 is fitted with a sleeve 26 attached to a sleeve 27 surrounding the sleeve of the bracket, and assists in the support of the bracket. The holder 35 is carried by a carriage 34 movable along the arm 20, and adapted to be held in position over the tank by a spring bolt 44 on the arm 20 engaging a strap 43 on the holder. A bolt 31, normally withdrawn by a spring 33, is pressed by a pin 64 on the carriage into a socket in the sleeve 27 when the holder is in position over the tank to prevent horizontal movement of the holder during the dipping. The holder 35 is supported from the carriage 34 by a pin 42, Fig. 6, taking into one of a series of holes 40. A spring latch 46 engages the holder and prevents movement due to flotation during the dipping. The latch is disengaged by a pin 52 when the carriage 34 is moved. The articles to be dipped are held in the holder 35 by clamps 55, Fig. 1, and loop frames 56 fitted with spring-pressed fingers 59. In a modification, a bracket having horizontal arms at each side of the jack, and supporting two article holders, is used.
