Abstract
16,179. Baxter, W. H. July 12. Rotary sieves.-In apparatus for screening crushed stone, ore, &c. in which the periphery of the screen is formed of longitudinal bars, the bars fit in recesses in the end and intermediate supporting-pieces and are retained in position by straps or rings, which are formed in one or more pieces and connected together by bolts, so that one or more of the bars can be removed without displacing the other bars. The bars may taper from end to end, or they may be parallel and fit in end pieces of different sizes, so that the spaces between the bars taper or otherwise vary in size. The end pieces B, C, Fig. 1, are mounted on the central shaft a by means of bosses b<1>, c<2>, and arms b<2>, c<3>, and are provided with rings b, c having recesses f, Fig. 2, to suit the round, square, triangular, or polygonal shaped bars g. The recesses may extend the whole width or only a portion of the width of the rings b, c; or the bars may have projections or shoulders to prevent longitudinal movement. The retaining ring or strap i is made in one, two, or more pieces, and is suitably hinged as at j ; or the ends of the portions of the strap may be turned outwards to form lugs through which bolts or screws are passed; or lugs or loops may be formed on the end pieces B, C, to or through which one end of a portion of the strap is hooked. Instead of recesses f, the rings b, c or the retaining-ring i may carry division pieces or projections. The end pieces may be constructed as described in Specifications 29,910/97 and 8503/01, and may be provided with angular blades as described in Specification 28,156/07.
