Abstract
12,882. Flower, J. H. June 1. Blowpipe burners.-The gas-pipe I, Fig. 2, of a blowpipe adapted for use by dentists, jewellers, &c., is pivoted by means of a clamping-screw K to a shell D telescoping over a post B rising from a stand, so that the blowpipe can be freely lifted from the stand. When it is required to lift the stand as well, the bent-over end of a spring G, carried by the shell D, is pressed into engagement with a groove B' in the post. Notches round the lower end of the shell engage with a lug F on the stand, to prevent rotation of the shell. An air. tube N' enters the pipe I at P and terminates in a needle-jet N surrounded by a nozzle on the pipe 1. The gas supply is controlled by a cock J, and, if necessary, air may be allowed to pass from the pipe N<1> to the gas-pipe through a passage 0 controlled by a screw-valve O<1>. The gas-supply pipe may be connected to the pipe I at the end I<2>, but is usually connected to a pipe R, Fig. 3, adapted to supply both the pipe I and a pilot tube Q controlled by a screw valve Q<4>.
