Mechanically operated from vehicle. - The tramway point tongue A, shown in sectional side and end elevation in Figs. 1 and 4, respectively, is formed with a depending wedge H adapted to be acted on by vertically-moving wedges G, F, so as to give the necessary lateral movement to the tongues. One of the wedges G, F is mounted on a lever B, pivotally carried by a lever C, and the other wedge is carried by the pivoted lever C. The lever B carries two studs E placed a distance apart equal to half the wheel base of the vehicles, and adapted to project into the rail groove. The depression of the end stud causes the operation of the points in one direction; and the simultaneous depression of the other stud by the car wheels and the end stud by an auxiliary wheel causes the movement of the points in the opposite direction. The portion of the lever B carrying the studs may be formed as a separate lever adapted to act on another lever carrying the wedge.
