Abstract

Mechanically operated by vehicle.-Railway and tramway point mechanism of the kind operated in advance by the depression of a rail section or the like is provided with a shearing bolt or rivet whereby the connexion is broken when the vehicles pass at an excessive speed. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the pivotally mounted rail section a is kept raised by the counterweight g and, when depressed, operates the points through the connexion i, j. Should the speed of the oncoming vehicle be excessive or above a predetermined amount, the shear-pin f, made of copper or like metal, is unable to stand the blow whereby the link i is disconnected from the crank d, and the points are not operated. Various modifications are described, all of which comprise a connexion through members d, e, f.
