The lever f is weighted at g; the catch i rests on a bar n and is operated by a tappet h, in one direction only of the trucks. When the trucks descend slowly, the catch returns before the arrival of the truck ; when they descend quickly, the catch is thrown over on to the abutment m. A beam on the mine roof may be used to prevent the trucks from overturning.
