Abstract

8817. Holz, C. April 14. Exhibitions, scenic. - An amusement device which consists of an apartment arranged to resemble the interior of a railway carriage is oscillated to produce an illusion of rapid motion, and panoramic views or suitable scenery are moved past the sides of the apartment. The apartment a, Fig. 2, is supported on rollers e which rest on cams f mounted on a rotating shaft g. The cams f are moved axially by wedges k and springs n to bring different parts of their peripheries under the rollers c. Grooves p formed on the face of each cam produce an oscillation of the car and rhythmic sounds similar to those produced by contact between the wheels of a railway carriage and the rail joints. The apartment may also be oscillated by setting the rollers e eccentrically on their axles. By the sides of the apartment, black cloths q, Fig. 4, to represent the interior of a tunnel, travel between rollers r and are provided at intervals with apertures through which the scenery is viewed. The scenery consists of back cloths u and cut cloths s which travel between rollers, and statues, models, or other objects arranged on movable cars w.
