Description

Nov; 5, 1929. A. VASZ IN AMUSEMENT DEVICE Filed May 24, 192' 2 Sheets-Shet 1 A. VASZIN AMUSEMENT DEVICE Nov. 5,' 1929.
Filed May 24, 192' 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Nov. 5, 1929 tinsel AUREL VASZIN, OF DAYTON OHIO AMUSEMENT DEVICE Application filed May 24, 1927. Serial No. 193,918.
My invention relates to amusement devices.
It is the object of my invention to provide an amusement ride so arranged that the cars in which the passengers ride will be subjected to violent motion in a vertical plane while traveling bodily in a horizontal plane. At the same time the construction of the vehicle in which the pasengers ride will be such as to give a representation of an animal opening and closing its mouth,-
such as a frog.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan View of the ride. Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof with the center platform in section.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of a car in its horizontal position with the mouth of the animal open.
Figure 4 is a similar View with the car in tilted position with the mouth of the animal closed- Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 is a supporting framework on which is journalled a vertical platform shaft 2. This shaft carries a revolving platform 3 which is formed with a groove l in the periphery thereof in which rides the driving belt 5 that is driven by the pulley 6. This pulley 6 may be driven in any desired fashion through gears or belts, as indicated from the motor 7. The shaft 2 carries a hub 8 in which are mounted a plurality of radiating arms 9.
This hub is connected to the platform 8 so that movement of the platforms carries the arms 9. The ends of the arms carry a roller 10 to support the end of the arm. The roller 10 travels on a circular track 11. On the arm 9 is pivotally mounted the passenger car 12. j
()n the rear end of the car is a depending diagonally disposed arm 13 carrying a roller 14 which rides upon the undulatory track 15. This causes the car to rock about the axis of the arm 9 to give the rolling or rocking motion to the passengers while the car travels bodily in a circular path in a generally horizontal direction. The arm 9 is also provided with a stationary mounted jaw or projection 16 which constitutes the lower jaw of an animal whose head is indicated at 17. The car body proper constitutes the upper jaw of this animal, which I prefer to have formed as a frog.
The equipment described gives a very good imitation of the hopping of a frog so that the necessary amusement is provided for the passengers in the vehicle.
Standards 18 and 19 are provided for carrying clusters of electric bulbs to suitably illuminate the platforms.
The arms 9 are joined together by the spacers 20 so that the entire structure is rigid and strong.
The seat for passengers in the vehicle is to the rear of the pivotal support of the vehicle on the arm 9.
It will be understood that I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifications as maybe necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an amusement apparatus, a plurality of arms radiating from a common hub, means for driving said hubto rotate said arms, cars for passengers pivoted on said arms freely, an indulatory track, means on said cars for engaging with said indulatory track to cause the cars to rotate about their arms, a passenger seat so located as to be between the point of engagement with the undulatory track and the pivotal mounting on the arm whereby the cars are maintained in engagement with the undulatory track, the forward end of said car being projected beyond the point of pivotal support on the arm to formthe upper jaw of a pictorial representation of an animal, and a stationary forwardly projecting member on the arm to constitute the lower aw of the animal, whereby as the car rocks the animals jaws will be caused to open and close.
2. In combination, an amusement device, of a central standard, a driving member 7 thereon, a plurality of arms radiating therefrom, means to actuate said driving means, an undulatory track, a horizontally disposed eXt-eriorly located platform, wheels on said arms engaging said horizontal platform which is also adapted to receive passengers enterin vehicles, vehicles pivotally mounted on sai arms, a depending diagonally dis- Vposed arm carrying a roller mounted on each of said vehlcles, the roller on said arm engaging said undulatory track, whereby as the arms revolve the cars will travel in a horizontal path and rock about their axial mounting on the arm, means on the forward end of said car beyond its pivotal mounting 1 0n the arm for forming the upper jaw of an animal, and stationary means mounted on said arm for constituting the lower Jaw of said animal.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my si nature.
AUREL VAl ZIN.
