Abstract

19,351. Bishop, R. H., and Sandwell, W. D. Aug. 23. Roundabouts.-A structure which may carry a number of cars, sets of horses, &c., or according to the Provisional Specification, a platform carrying a helter-skelter track or rails for cars, is given a combined rotary and oscillating motion by means of epicyclic gearing. The arms q supporting the structure are fixed to a wheel p rotated by gearing m, l, k, the fixed wheel b, and the wheels c, g, f. The wheel c is fixed to the inclined shaft h, which is thus rotated on the surface of a cone on the axis of the shaft d. The cars &c. are kept parallel by rods u hinged to a band t around an eccentric s. A galloping motion is given to horses &c. by rods 2 or cranks on a shaft 1, Fig. 3, driven by a shaft z universally jointed at its ends and rotated by bevel-gearing y, x, Fig. 1. The teeth x are upon an eccentric v which is fixed to the casing o and controls the position of sliding plates w, which keep the bevel-wheels in gear notwithstanding the axial movement of the shafts z. A. flexible platform is arranged at 12.
