Seals.-An envelope seal, of the kind comprising two members which interlock and also grip parts of the envelope between them, consists of a box-like female member c, Fig. 7, and a box-like male member B, Fig. 3, formed by bending back extensions b<1> on the sides b of the box, passing them through a hole b<3> in the floor of the box and then bending them outwards to form hooks b<4>. To use the seal, the member B is placed in the centre of an envelope blank formed as shown in Fig. 1, and the bottom and side flaps 2, 4, 5 are folded over the member, the tongues 9, 6, 7 being turned over the end b<5> and sides b of the box respectively; the member C is placed on the tongue 10 of the closing-flap 3, the tongues 10<a>, 10<b> being turned over the projections c<1> and the end c<2> of the box respectively; the two members of the seal are then interlocked, the turned-in tongues being gripped between the members B, C. The tongues 6, 7, 9, instead of being cut in the edge of the paper, may be stamped out with a protecting-strip surrounding them. The tongues may be provided with adhesive, in order that the envelopes may be sold with the seals attached.
