Abstract

5958. Gibbs, F. I. Feb. 27, 1908. Moulds ; preparing surfaces ; removing deposits from surfaces ; metal articles bent to form after removal of moulds.-Tea and coffee pots, jugs, cups, plates, dishes, candlesticks, vases, and other hollow-ware are produced by electro-deposition on the prepared surface of a suitable non-porous non-metallic model, such as glass, pottery, ivory, celluloid, hard - wood, tortoiseshell, vulcanite, and jet, a rim being formed by continuing the prepared surface over the edge to a line 1. The model is broken away or removed after the electro-deposition. The rim 3 may be pressed together as shown in Fig. 4 or Fig. 4* or it may be filled in with metallic paste and subsequently electro-plated ; or it may be pressed together, over a wire, solder, or metal-strip filling. The foot of the vessel may be similarly formed with a channel rim 7, the opening 8 being then closed by a disk 9 soldered &c. thereto ; or the disk 9 may fit into the rim as at 10, Fig. 7, the rim being then closed upon it, after which the foot may be electro-plated to hide the join.
