Abstract
4410. Gibbs, F. I. Feb. 27. Hollow-ware, metallic. - Tea-pots, coffee-pots, jugs, cups, dishes, plates, candlesticks, vases, &c. are made by electro-deposition on prepared glass or glazed pottery-ware moulds which are alterwards broken away or otherwise removed. The surface, or parts of the surface, of the mould are rendered conducting by a metallic paint, such as silver-leaf ground in turpentine &c., which paint is then dried and baked on, and then cleansed and scratch-brushed, after which it is ready for the electro-deposition. One metal only maybe deposited, or a layer of a metal such as silver may be first deposited to form an inside plating of the finished article, then a thick layer of the metal which is to form the body of the article, and then, if desired, an outer layer of silver. The mould may be broken away by light blows on the outside, or by pouring boiling water into the mould, or by immersing in boiling water while the mould is filled with cold water, or by beating and then pouring on cold water. To avoid breaking the mould, it may, as already known, be made in sections. [Reference has been directed under Section 7 of Patents &c.
