Abstract
5624. Trautmann, F. O. March 9. Mechanical toys.-A skipping-toy comprises a doll a mounted on a holder b on which a wire or cord skipping - rope c is pivotally mounted. The holder passes through the hands, forearms, and waist of the doll, and is made angular in section at parts to prevent the doll from rotating. The holder may be continuous, as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be in separate lengths passing along both forearms of the doll, but into the waist at one side only. In the latter case the arms of the doll are jointed, and additional means are provided to keep the free arm in skipping-position. The legs v of the doll may be so jointed, Fig. 8, that when the doll is raised the legs swing backward. The skipping- rope possesses appreciable weight and rigidity, and normally rests in front of the toy. In the marionette form of the toy shown in Fig. 4, the doll has fixed limbs and separate angular holders b, which are formed with vertical parts w to which elastic or other threads x are attached. The upper ends of the threads may be free or attached to a handle. In all forms, the toy is operated by quickly raising and lowering the doll by means of the holder, which causes the rope to rotate continuously.
