Abstract

3948. K³ttner, E. W. Feb. 17,1908, [Convention date]. Incandescent gas burners; mantles.-An inverted burner, having a saucer-shaped or plate-shaped mantle, is provided with means for throttling the external air supply, and with a flared flamespreader 3 surrounding the lower end of the mixing-tube 1 and adapted to keep the chimney draught from the parts of the mantle covered by the spreader. The external air supply is preferably admitted through a hit-and-miss regulator 8 on the globe-holder, and passes around a tapering glass chimney 5 to the mantle. Part of the external air supply may be fed through a pipe 11 to a chamber 10 above the spreader 3, and thence through apertures 12 in its base. The mantle ring 16 may be suspended by hooks 17, 18 from the flame-spreader.
