Abstract

3307. Robertson, J., [trading as Boss & Co.]. Feb. 10. Breech actions, drop-down barrel.-Relates to double-barrelled guns having the barrels one above the other, and consists in forming the hinge by stud-pieces 1, Fig. 2, arranged at the side of the lower barrel. These stud-pieces 1 fit into recesses 2, Fig. 1, in rotary studs 3 mounted in the action body. The strain is taken off the hinge by eccentric surfaces 6 on the barrels and the body. These surfaces may be undercut, in which case they tend to pull the two sides of the body together. The studs are prevented from slipping out of the recesses 2 by a projection on the fore-end iron. In a modification, studs in the interior of the action body engage recesses formed on the sides of the lower barrel.
