2077. Mitkewitsch, W. Jan. 28. Gyroscopic apparatus.-A gyroscopic fly-wheel a gives a datum line or direction for t h e sighting-device such as a telescope s of instruments used for measuring the angular distance apart of two objects, and otherwise for surveying or other purposes. As shown, the telescope carries a pointer f reading-off on a scale m on one of the gimbal rings of the gyroscope mounting, or alternatively the telescope may have spiderlines in its focal plane and the apparent drift of the object across these in a certain time may give data for correcting gun-sights &c. The readings may be magnified by means of a finger wheel device, and the whole may be applied to telemetry, the gyroscope being utilized to give a fixed direction which is transferred electrically to a plane table for graphic calculation purposes.
