861. Holland, G. E. Jan. 13. Vessels modified for unloading ; vessels, trough systems for emptying. -Relates to vessels of the kind in which a bulk cargo, such as coal, grain, ore, &c. is discharged by being caused to fall from the holds into longitudinal passages from which it is removed by elevators or conveyer bands. A central longitudinal passage b extends nearly the whole length of the vessel, the bottom of the passage being formed as a box keel c. Both sides of the passage are provided with openings, at suitable distances apart, having doors d, which can be operated from the deck or elsewhere by handles e, to allow the cargo f to fall into the passage b. An elevator g, preferably of the kind described in Specification 16,894/02, is supported on a trolly h running on rails i, which are supported on stanchions s on each side of the passage b. The elevator g can thus be moved from end to end of the passage by means of endless chains and windlasses, the doors d being opened successively as the elevator is gradually moved along.
