Transformers.-A phase-shifting transformer, for use with a potentiometer, has a secondary coil p<1>, which can be turned within a primary p wound like the stator at a two-pole alternating-current motor, a rotating field being produced either by means of a polyphase main supply, or by splitting the phase of a single-phase supply. The phase of the current in the secondary is altered by turning the secondary coil.
