Rotary machines; transfer printing.-Relates to planographic or transfer rotary printing-machines, and consists in providing means whereby "streaking" of the impression, due to relative motion between the transfer or plate cylinder and the impression cylinder, may be avoided. The transfer cylinder a is made of almost inappreciably greater diameter than the plate and impression cylinders b, c, which are driven from the cylinder a, during the impression by bearers, and during the remainder of the revolution by gearing. The bearers 1 of the cylinder a are cut away as shown at 2 to allow the driving-faces of the teeth to reengage at the conclusion of the printing. The bearers on the cylinders b, c or on all three cylinders may be cut away instead of those on a only as shown. The transfer cylinder a is provided with a gear-wheel 3 driven from a wheel 4 loose on the shaft of the cylinder c. The wheel 3 drives the cylinders c, b by means of wheels 6, 6<1> adjustably secured to the cylinders by bolts 7, 7<1>. The wheel 3-also drives a wheel 4<1> loose on the shaft of the cylinder b, which drives the inking- apparatus 10. In a modification, the transfer cylinder a is driven by independent gearing instead of from a wheel loose on the shaft of the cylinder c, and the inking-apparatus is driven therefrom by a shaft driven by bevel-gearing.
