Bookbinding.-In the method of bookbinding in which T-shaped cuts or slots are made in the back of the book and parchment or like binding-strips are inserted in the parts of the slots which are parallel to the back, a machine is employed which cuts the slots through a large number of book sections at one operation, and the cutting-knives of the machine are arranged to draw the parchment strips after them through the slots, the knives being formed with eyes for the attachment of the strips. The strips are taken from long rolls mounted on the machine and fitted with spring brakes for maintaining a suitable tension.
