Guards, mud.-Mudguards for the wheels of vehicles are composed of a series of chain a which hang freely side by side from a holder carried by the vehicle and adapt themselves to the inequalities of the road surface. The mudguard comprises a slide k, carrying four to six rows of small chains g, and secured to the holder f by a screw h. For use with wheels having fixed axles, a rod e, carried by the holder, is adjustably connected to a ring mounted on the axle. In cases where the outer end of the axle revolves, the holder is connected to a ring loosely mounted on a sleeve fixed to the axle, the ring being kept in place by an outer ring which is screwed on to the sleeve. The ring is prevented from turning with the wheel by an arm e<2>, which connects it to a fixed part of the vehicle, the arm e<2> being composed of two telescopic parts in cases where the vehicle is mounted on springs.
