Abstract

19,363. Pettibone, H. Sept. 15. Producers.-A draught through a producer is obtained by means of an injector supplied with the gas generated. The producers are worked in pairs A, A<1>, Fig. 1, connected together by an upper pipe C, and are connected to a collecting-main E by pipes D, D<1> which are situated below the grates and formed internally as double conical frusta. In each of these pipes two jacketed injector nozzles h, h<1>, Fig. 3, are fitted in juxtaposition so that gas may be exhausted from, or injected into, the base of each producer ; or in a modification, sliding nozzles with flexible connexions may be used. Each nozzle may be supplied with gas from an auxiliary main Q supplied in its turn by a compressor P connected with a holder N, the compressor being worked by an engine O using the gas. A take-off pipe E<1> delivers the gas, either through the scrubbers L, M, to the holder, or directly through a valve e<11> to a metallurgical furnace or other place of use. In starting the producers, steam may be supplied to the nozzles, or compressed gas from an auxiliary holder may be used. In order to clear the fuel columns periodically, gas is injected in sudden puffs or impulses into the base of one of each pair of producers, the products escaping through the connecting-pipe C and passing downwards through the other producer.
