Abstract

16,260. Howden & Co., J., and Owen, W. H. July 31. Steam generation by steam-engine exhaust.-In a power system such as that described in Specifications Nos. 25,231 and 25,232, A.D. 1907, in which a continuous supply of low-pressure steam is obtained from an intermittent supply of exhaust steam by means of a heat accumulator, an auxiliary supply of low-pressure steam, for use when the main exhaust supply fails, is obtained by throttling the main steam supply and passing it through the water in the accumulator, or by directly heating the accumulator. The exhaust passes normally along the pipe b to a turbine. Any long interruption of the supply of exhaust steam causes the automatic reducing-valve d to admit live steam through the pipe e to the vessel a, generating steam which passes away by the pipe h. If desired a connecting-pipe i with a stop-valve i<1> may be arranged as shown in dotted lines for the passage of the exhaust steam, or a separate pipe leading to a distributor may be provided. A further auxiliary supply of steam may be obtained by directly heating the boiler by the furnace. The supply of steam withdrawn from the apparatus may be superheated before utilization in a turbine.
