Abstract

15,792. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. July 24. Condensers; converting alternating and direct currents.-A solution of ammonium tetraborate, to which may be added an organic substance such as glycerine or milk sugar, forms the electrolyte in electrolytic cells in which one or both electrodes are formed of aluminium, for use as rectifiers or condensers. The ammonium tetraborate is pre pared by mixing an 8 to 10 per cent solution of boric acid with excess of ammonia solution containing about 25 per cent NH4.HO, and evaporating on a water bath to dryness and until all smell of ammonia has disappeared.
