Abstract

14,754. Parkes, W. E., and Parkes, J. H. July 11. Stays.-Combined casement stays and fasteners of the kind in which the stay is connected by a jointed piece to a rotatable block provided with a locking-catch have the catch made at the end of the block adjacent to a boss on the plate in which it is pivoted, and with a plane surface bearing against the boss. A piece E is knuckle-jointed at the ends to a stay-bar F and a rotatable block D, which is pivoted in the hollow boss c'of the attachment plate C. The catch d<2> has a flat face adjacent to the boss c', and is in the same plane with the end of the block D, so that it works smoothly against the face of boss c<1> and supports the pivot under strain. The plate G, with slot g' for reception of catch d<2>, is mounted on the frame, and carries the peg g<2>, shaped as shown, for engaging the holes in the stay-bar, which may be slightly tapered. When applied to telescopic stays, as shown in Fig. 8, the block D is made as above, but engages a slot in the plate J, which is provided with a thumb-screw j<1> to bind the sleeve K to the stay. By provision of the slot k<1> and notches k<2>, the rod H may be adjusted in position by the knob h<1> without interfering with the thumb-screw j<1>.
