Abstract

13,079. Royds, R. Dec. 18. Valve-gear.-A toggle-lever is interposed between the valve lever or other actuating-means and the valve spindle, the toggle being controlled, if necessary, by means of springs, fluid-pressure, or friction dash-pots. Fig. 1 shows the application to a trip-gear in which the toggle, controlled by a spring b in a dash-pot B', is actuated by the tripping-arm A, and is connected at the lower end to a sliding collar c<1> on the valve spindle C<1>. To ensure a firm seating of the valve in the closed position, the collar c<1> compresses the spring c<2> which bears against a nut c<4> adjustable on the valve spindle. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which one arm of the toggle consists of a rod h<1> terminating in a slotted bar H to receive a block g on the other arm G of the toggle.
