Abstract
12,271. Brandt, F. June 5. Ventilating.-A screw fan 7 is mounted in an open-ended casing 2 attached to the side of the railway carriage and communicating therewith through a grid valve 4. Guides 8, 9 are provided so that the fan is rotated in an anti-clockwise direction independently of the direction of motion of the vehicle. When the vehicle is travelling to the left, the inrushing air overruns the fan blades in the lower half of the fan and is deflected into the carriage. The upper half of the fan abstracts air through the corresponding parts of the slots 5. When the direction of motion of the vehicle is reversed, the air is deflected through the upper parts of the slots 5 and is abstracted through the lower parts.
