Abstract

8621. Meyer, H. R. April 12. Ventilating vehicles.-The movement of air through an open-ended tube extending through a tramcar, railway, or other vehicle near the roof extracts foul air through apertures in the tube. This is effected by inclined plates 4 mounted within the tube adjacent to the apertures 3. These plates are movable by hand and. in the case of a vehicle adapted to move in either direction, are of the double form shown, one half of the plate serving to close part of the aperture while the other half is set in such a direction with regard to the aperture as to cause an influx of foul air therethrough. Undesirable flow of air past the edges of the plate is prevented by flanges 11, 12. Each plate is mounted in a channel-shaped carrier 10 which can be readily fitted into and removed from the tube. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which a tube 15 for the supply of fresh air is arranged within the extractor tube 1, a space being left above the tube 1 for the outlet of the fresh air.
