10,501. Waller, E. B. May 14, Hydraulic mains; scrubbers and washers.-In a town's gas-plant, an automatic by-pass valve controlled by a separate governor is situated between the hydraulic main and the exhaust, so that an undue rise of pressure cannot occur in the main should the exhauster fail. The valve j is placed in a branch from the main a leading from the retort house, and the governor k which is exposed to the gas pressure is connected with means to indicate the opening of the valve ; the governor may also control valves in connexion with the scrubbers and purifiers. The escaping gas is delivered to a holder m, which may be connected with the scrubbers &c., or to a chimney stack. A full-bore valve l in the main a controlled by a governor n may be used to maintain a steady pressure during normal working.
